“Some photographers take beautiful photographs, and then there are some who understand what photographs actually mean. Aljoša Videtič is the latter.
I first came across Aljoša’s work by chance while scrolling through social media. I saw a photograph and instantly fell in love with it. Not just because it was beautiful — although it was — but because it told a story. There was something alive in it, something beyond the people, the composition, and the light. I remember thinking, right then and there: If I ever get married, I want my wedding photographs to be like this. I want them to tell a story.
Years later, when Matej and I started talking about our wedding, he told me he had only one real request: amazing photographs. Matej is a hobbyist photographer himself, with an exceptional eye for detail, light and shadow, and even though I had never mentioned Aljoša to him, I knew immediately who I wanted to show him. One look at Aljoša’s portfolio and we agreed: he would be perfect.

Assuming there was very little chance we would actually get him, we started looking at other photographers, but then something just short of a miracle happened. Aljoša was free on our wedding day. And he was happy to be there for us.
We first met over coffee in Ljubljana, and we clicked immediately. Aljoša is one of those people who makes you feel comfortable almost instantly. He is warm, kind, thoughtful, curious, and wonderfully easy to be around. By the end of that first coffee, it felt less like we had hired our wedding photographer and more like we had made a friend. That quality matters more than I realized it would.
Something Aljoša has in spades is emotional intelligence, which I think is one of the most important qualities a photographer who photographs people can possess — especially someone invited into intimate moments, families, small groups, and emotionally charged events like weddings.

He knows when to be present and when to disappear. He knows when a moment needs direction and when it needs space. He reads people extraordinarily well. There is kindness in the way he works, but also sensitivity and respect. You never feel observed, managed, or turned into a subject.
On our wedding day, Aljoša was consummately professional, and somehow almost invisible. We hardly noticed him working, and yet when we received the photographs, there it was: the whole story of our day. Not just what happened, but what it felt like.
The looks. The gestures. The light. The laughter. The quiet moments. The people we love. The tiny things we didn’t even notice ourselves while they were happening.
That is Aljoša’s gift.

And there is something else I believe he understands deeply: wedding photographs are not just photographs of a wedding. They become part of a family’s history.
Years and decades from now, these images will be among the things that remain. They will be how people remember us and how people who were not even there come to know something about who we were.
These photographs preserve not only faces, but relationships, personalities, gestures, friendships, families, and a particular moment in all of those people’s lives.

In that sense, a wedding photographer is entrusted with something much bigger than documenting a beautiful day. He is entrusted with the legacy of the people in them.
