London has always been close to my heart. Even though it’s as chaotic as a major city can be, to me it still feels familiar and homelike. Maybe that’s because my sister has lived in England for 5 years. Of course, I paid her a little visit as I embarked on this photo journey.
This particular wedding story goes back 3 years. I was photographing a wedding in London wnen I met Maddy. I remember it was Sunday, one of those perfect days to explore the big city life. As I was wandering around in Camden Town I spotted her; she was wearing a bright yellow sweater – seriously hard to miss. I took a couple of photos of Maddy and her friend and somehow we kept in touch. So, when I read her e-mail asking me to be her wedding photographer, I couldn’t have been more happy and excited.
Maddy and Steven are a young couple from London, who know what they like and want. And as far as their wedding pictures were concerned, they wanted me to capture spontaneous moments of genuine affection as opposed to carefully positioned poses of smiling people.
The day before the wedding, I took a little walk around the West Hampstead district where the wedding took place and looked for “hidden corners” where I could take some good photos of the newlyweds. On the day of the wedding, I can never get enough alone time with the couple so being prepared, doing a little location scouting beforehand, makes me feel better and more efficient.
On the day of the big event, it was a charming sunny day and the easy-going mode of the guests was present throughout the day. My favourite thing in wedding photography is being able to steal precious moments of joy and build a story around them.
After the church ritual, a double decker bus took us to the nearby restaurant where the wedding celebration continued. The frisky DJ indulged the wedding guests until early morning hours, but I called it a night around midnight.
I really enjoyed the company of relaxed people and I’m looking forward to the next trip to London.
Take care, Maddy and Steve!
