Zanzibar wedding
For sure Zanzibar wedding trip is always amazing trip. Pristine white sands, turquoise waters of the Indian ocean, exotic tropical vegetation and a gentle aroma of spices floating in the air – all make a perfect backdrop for a unique unforgettable experience of a beach wedding.
This time I became part of a beautiful, colourful and vibrant wedding of a lovely couple from Johannesburg that took place off the East coast of Africa on the magical island of Zanzibar. With all its diversity, the richness of flavour and breathtaking sea views, I found this island as one of the most intriguing places for a destination wedding photography.
Three days before the ceremony and reception, in order to get to know each other better, we decided to take a trip to Stone Town, the heart of the archipelago full of mystery and historical sites. Roaming around its labyrinths of cobbled alleyways, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arabic houses, strolling along the beaches with kids running around as gracious sails of dhows floated by, I was honoured to capture intimate moments of tenderness and playful nature of this beautiful couple.
The wedding itself took place on the North coast of the island at the Gold Zanzibar house and spa. Accompanied by traditional songs, cheering and dancing of her glamorous bridesmaids, the beautiful bride in her elegant wedding dress came down the hill to the altar just before the sunset. There, by the beach, in the fiery light of the sun dropping behind the horizon, as the groom lovingly took the hand of his wife-to-be, music, laughter and love took over the ceremony and the wedding party.
Every little detail was thoughtfully taken care of by the experienced wedding planners based in Zanzibar and the bride herself: tasteful beach themed rustic decoration of the tables and the reception venue, exquisite wedding cake, flower arrangements and Arabic style lanterns – all enhanced the exotic blend of centuries-old culture with the free-spirited barefoot atmosphere of the Zanzibar beach wedding.
It was a truly unforgettable experience for me as a wedding photographer and a huge delight too to document this special occasion full of life and joy.
I will particularly cherish the new friendship that was born between us thanks to the easy, welcoming and fun-loving spirit of the bride and groom and their friends.
A few days spent together on the magic island of Zanzibar gifted all of us lifetime memories of spicy sunsets and salty breeze of the ocean carrying faint scent of frangipani flowers…
